Our Top 10 Things to do at Scarborough Beach, Western Australia |
Scarborough Beach
Scarborough Beach is one of my favourite beaches in Western Australia. I like it because it is just so vibrant, and while most beaches are great for locals, they really don't offer many exciting options for people visiting from day-to-day. Not so in Scarbs - if you only have a day or so to visit, you can hop over to Scarborough Beach and enjoy a vibrant day on the sand.

Scarborough Beachfront
Scarborough's Beachfront has undergone some amazing changes over the last few years, so if its been a while since you visited, its time to come back and check out the new Scarborough Beachfront. Scarborough Beach has bars, it has restaurants, it has playgrounds and grassy hills to roll down and it just has a cool, laid back surf vibe. The new Scarborough Beachfront has families front and centre, and it's always buzzing with activity. It's home to the Scarborough Skate Park (i.e. The Snakepit) which is world class, with a competition grade skate bowl that will have you holding your breath as you watch the local kids take twists and turn on its slippery vertical cliffs.

To let you feel like your part of the action, you can have your own adventure on the amazing climbing wall over looking the ocean, which is like nothing else in Perth. Surrounded by padded foam , its the only adult grade outdoor rock climbing wall open to the public in Perth. And once you've hung around for a bit, you can grab your skate board and fly around the open and friendly skatepark (or watch your kids do the same).
Even the Children's Playground is a feast for the senses, with its ropes, twists and turns, it provides a high level of challenge. It's almost a little too daunting for the tiniest of people, make sure you stick by them, as once they get up into the rope walkway, most toddlers call to get straight back down to the safety of the soft white sand below! My kids are a healthy 9 years and 12 years old though, and they really enjoy chasing each other around this playground.
Scarborough Beach Pool
Public swimming pools aren't normally anything to write home about. Afterall, how exciting can a few lap lanes and an indoor splash pool be, right? But public swimming pools don't normally have 180' views of the Indian Ocean either.
If you're visiting Scarborough Beach, you can gain Adult entry for less than $8, and a Family Pass for 4 people is just $19, which is great value. This price includes spas, saunas, indoor and outdoor pools and access to lockers, a popular cafe and hot showers. And just look at that view, how could you go wrong?

Scarborough Beach Bars and Pubs
It's been a few years since I was a regular "bar fly" with hubby at the local beach bars, but some of my funniest memories are of the adventures at the pubs along the Scarborough strip, so I can't help but feel an attachment to the area. Australian bars are relaxed and enjoyable any day of the year, serving world class cuisine and local wines and liquors, but there is something about being able to walk off the sand and down a cold beer, that makes Scarborough Beach extra chill. With it's glistening sunsets and close proximity to Perth City, Scarbs is the place where the beautiful and young people go to let their hair down. If you're feeling like a cocktail overlooking the ocean check out the bars below.

Scarborough Beach Restaurants
Perth has a vibrant cafe culture, and a love for all things food and feast and Scarborough Beach is no different, calling home to a number of restaurants serving flavours from across the globe. One of the things people in Perth often take for granted is the great variety of fresh local produce we get to enjoy everyday! Because Perth is so far away from other capital cities and agricultural regions it just makes good economic sense to buy local (thanks Spudshed!) From Cesear Salads to Seafood, you're sure to find a dish sourced from our amazing, local farmers.
